PRO/PAN Workshop

  • Willow Glen Community Center 2175 Lincoln Avenue San Jose, CA, 95125 United States (map)

COST: $10.00 members; $15.00 guests

A meeting of the minds where we band together and brainstorm current trends, strategies, ideas, and share tips and tricks of how to best reach our goals, respective of where each of us stands on their career path. PRO (writers between manuscript completion and PAN eligibility) and PAN (Professional Authors Network) authors will have joint and breakout sessions to meet the varying needs of writers in different career stages. General and Associate members are invited to join the PRO or PAN discussions to learn more about the different RWA communities of practice.

PAN discussion will be led by our VP of Programs Nadine Mutas and our PAN Liaison Claire Haiken.  The PRO discussion will be led by our PRO Liaison, Barbara Conly.

Now is the time to evaluate where you are in your publishing journey and submit the paperwork to RWA to join one of these "Communities of Practice."

PRO — All you need is  be a General Member and submit one complete original work of romance fiction of at least 20,000 words, or multiple complete original works of romance fiction which combine for a total of at least 20,000 words. That's all! They don't have to be published—just completed manuscripts.

PAN — Are you contracted with an advance of $1K or more? Have you earned $1K or more with one of your indie books? Or do you have an indie book for sale but haven't made the threshold? You could get full or provisional status in PAN. The rules are a little more complex, so check RWA's website for details.

Besides our workshop, there are benefits through RWA for joining one of these groups, and participation is already included in your annual RWA dues (i.e. it won't cost you anything).

For more information about PRO/PAN, check out RWA's detailed description on both communities.
